Palena – Queulat

The Northern Entry Gate

The northern Patagonia of Chile receives visitors with incredible landscapes where the exuberance of its evergreen forests and pristine waters from the Palena River combines with the warmth of its people.

 

This section of the Carretera Austral includes enormous and snowed mountains in Lago Verde, the productive coastal activities of fishermen in Raul Marin Balmaceda. The town of La Junta in the heart of The Palena-Queulat Basin, where you will find excellent places to do recreational fishing. The National Park Queulat with its beautiful trails and its magnificent Ventisquero Colgante (Hanging Glacier). Then you will find hot springs in the same bay of the town of Puyuhuapi and the austral fjords traversed by artisanal fishermen and sailors which you can also access from Puerto Cisnes. South from Puerto Cisnes, following the Carretera Austral is the small town of Villa Amengual and after a detour to the east, you can reach La Tapera village and finally the Alto Rio Cisnes border crossing.
