Coyhaique – Pto. Chacabuco
A beautiful scenery of landscapes.
The main characteristic of this section is its variety of landscapes which shape it from the scattered coasts of the far south of Chile until the lush Patagonian pampas closer to the Patagonian Andes.
In the north of Coyhaique, there is the town of Villa Ortega which is a good place that works as a hub to visit the near surroundings. Balmaceda is 50 minutes southeast away from Coyhaique and it is one of the entry gates of the region because of the airport as the border crossing Los Huemules. Puerto Aysen is 1 hour away from Coyhaique and stands out by its architecture of the constructions made of native wood and the Presidente Ibañez bridge which stands out as the longest hanging bridge of Chile and it was declared a Historical Monument. The bridge connects Puerto Aysen with Puerto Chacabuco, the main port of the Aysen region.
Mañihuales is also an unmissable place located 60 km from Aysen, in the middle of the evergreen forest and a beautiful lagoon ideal to do a boat trip and practice fly fishing.
