Province of the Glaciers

This territory is known for tourism as the Province of the Glaciers. Impressive ice fields, mountains, precious lakes and exuberant forest. All together with a unique architecture and interesting local culture, giving life to the landscapes of the south Patagonia, the southernmost part of the Aysen region.

 

Here you will find three towns working as a base or hub to do a series of excursions and trails. Cochrane, a small city with a good service offer and it is near a protected wildlife area of great attractions such as the National Reserve Cochrane lake or Tamango and Patagonia Park. Also, you can visit have the Calluqueo glacier located in the Monte San Lorenzo which is 50 km south of Cochrane. Another place to visit is Caleta Tortel with its picturesque cypress of the Guaitecas wood-walks and sail to the Isla de los Muertos and get to visit the Steffen glacier in the Northern Ice Field and the Jorge Montt glacier in the Southern Ice Field. Finally, you will arrive at Villa O’Higgins, just where it ends the Carretera Austral and the beginning of the Southern Ice Field. Go all over a wide network of trails which gives value to the attractive places ruled by Cisnes and Ciervo lakes, Mayer river and Mosco and Tigre glaciers. Visit the lake O’Higgins, which is one of the biggest Patagonian lakes and the deepest of America with 836 mt, here also you will find the O’Higgins glacier.
