“Scenic Route of Patagonia”
It is a Patagonian scenic route that is unique in the world. Its 1247 kilometres, which begin in Puerto Montt and end in Villa O’Higgins, were built in the mid-’70s. Through its length, there are stretches of paved urban road, others are rural tracks and others must be travelled by water, through the sea or lakes.
The course offers visitors a surprising journey through various landscapes which range from evergreen forests to Andean-Patagonian forests; through channels and fjords, lakes of various colours, breath-taking snowdrifts, massive pampas, glaciers and mighty rivers, parks and national reserves.
The road can be travelled by car, bicycle, motorcycle, and it can even be travelled, for those who are more daring and adventurous, on foot.
The important thing is that before starting the trip you must be informed of the following: output frequency of buses and boats, office hours of border crossings, the state of the roads, supply points, the weather and places to board and lodge.
It is also important to have the proper attire. We recommend bringing waterproof clothing; high cut hiking boots, suitable for mud and rain; a fleece jacket and light clothing, for warmer days; in addition to sunscreen, sunglasses, hat and gloves, for cold nights.
