It is a Patagonian scenic route that is unique in the world. Its 1247 kilometres, which begin in Puerto Montt and end in Villa O’Higgins, were built in the mid ’70s.
Born at the eastern end of Palena lake in Chile, it is a binational lake, shared with Argentina, where it is known as General Vintter Lake.

Coyhaique and surroundings

General Carrera Lake
The General Carrera Lake / Buenos Aires Lake is located in the Patagonia and it is shared by Chile and Argentina. The General Carrera Lake is the biggest lake of Chile and the second biggest in South America, after Titicaca lake.
Capilla de Mármol (Marble Chapel)
The natural monument “Capillas de Mármol” (Marble Chapels) at the Natural Sanctuary are a group of small islets and islands, mostly made of marble.
Jeinimeni Lake National Reserve
The access to Jeinimeni Lake National Reserve is located 65 kilometres south of the town of Chile Chico.
The great mass millenary ice that descends from Mount San Valentín, the highest mountain in Patagonia.
San Rafael Lagoon
San Rafael Lagoon is a proglacial and measures approximately 15 kilometers long (north to south) and 10 kilometers wide (east to west) and has up to 200 meters of depth.
Northern Ice Fields and Southern Ice Fields are a great extension of a mass glacier, of which around 85% belongs to Chilean territory.
It is a beautiful and huge mass of millenary ice that descends through the west slope of San Lorenzo Mountain, becoming the main glacier of this mountain.
Confluence of the rivers Baker and Nef
A ground drop on the water course, of over 10 meters high, creates a huge waterfall and a sharp contrast between the turquoise waters of Baker River and the milky waters of Nef River.
From the mouth of Baker River, Caleta Tortel emerges as a beautiful and quaint town, full of magical stories of hard-working settlers and explorers.
O’Higgins Glacier is characterized by the purity of its ice fields, which contrast with the intense turquoise colour of the lake that contains it, which carries the same name.
